From Resident to President: Is Jesus Really in Charge?
May 31, 2026Marcus Johnson
One of the most powerful truths found in Scripture is that Jesus Christ died for us because of His great love. The cross was not an accident. It was not a last-minute plan. It was the greatest demonstration of love the world has ever seen.
The Bible tells us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus did not wait for us to become worthy. He did not wait for us to get our lives together. While we were still lost in sin, He willingly gave His life so that we could be saved.
When Jesus was arrested, mocked, beaten, and nailed to the cross, He could have called upon the armies of heaven for deliverance. Yet He chose to endure the suffering. Why? Because of love. Every nail driven into His hands, every drop of blood shed, and every painful step toward Calvary was motivated by His desire to redeem mankind.
Jesus Himself said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). On the cross, Jesus demonstrated that kind of love. He took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved. He bore our sins so that we could receive forgiveness and eternal life.
The sacrifice of Christ reminds us that God’s love is not merely spoken, it is proven. The cross stands as an eternal testimony that we are loved beyond measure. No matter our past mistakes, failures, or shortcomings, God’s love reaches out to us through Jesus Christ.
Because of His love, we can have hope. Because of His love, we can receive forgiveness. Because of His love, we can be reconciled to God. Because of His love, death does not have the final word.
As we reflect on the death of Jesus, let us never forget that Calvary was all because of love. A love that was willing to suffer. A love that was willing to sacrifice. A love that continues to call people to salvation today.
May we respond to that love with faith, obedience, and gratitude, giving our lives to the One who first loved us.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
