Bro Matthew Myles, Sr

MATTHEW MYLES SR. is a native of Chicago Illinois. He was born and raised by his parents, Evangelist Mark Myles Sr. and Dr. Opear Ree Myles. He has been connected to the body of Christ all of his life. His father Mark Myles Sr served the Far West congregation in Chicago for over 40 years, with a legacy of baptizing and training men who are strong leaders in churches thought out the Chicago land area. He accepted Christ and was added to the Church of Christ on September 25, 1977. He has been a member of the church for 34 years and has been preaching the gospel for 32 years. He has served the Lord’s church in varies capacities, song leader, youth counselor, advisor and director. He attended and graduated from Westinghouse Vocational H.S he furthered his education at Southwestern Christian College in Terrell TX. He has also been trained and certified for private security and investigation. He spent 14 years in the investigation department for the Northern Trust Company. He is a former owner of Jamia’s Jammin Vienna Restaurant located in Harvey IL.

He served as the senior minister of Harvey Church of Christ for (5) years while at Harvey church the congregation experienced great growth.  In 1999 he was appointed as a Chaplain Officer for the city of Harvey Police Department by the Honorable Mayor Nicholas E. Graves. He also has served as one of the building inspector for the city of Harvey.  He served as the minister emeritus of the Markham Church of Christ in Markham IL.  He has served as the minister to the Southside Church of Christ in Montgomery Alabama. After he arrived in Montgomery he immediately began working toward seeing that both the leadership and membership work together.

He formerly served as the minister of the Terry St. Church of Christ in Ripley MS.

Myles also served as a Board Member of Community Action for the Welfare of Senior Citizen For Tippan County.

He has five children (one daughter, Jamia, who also attended Southwestern Christian College and a son-in law, Rodrick Montgomery; triplets, Matthew Jr., William Christian (Marissa) and Nicholas Ryan and a younger son David Arron) Six beautiful grandchildren, Malik, Anna, Ian, Dylan.,William Jr. And Nicholas Jr.

His favorite Bible Character is Christ and his favorite Bible passage is Psalm 27

Bro. Larry Johnson

Larry Johnson held the position of Senior Minister of the Central Pointe Church of Christ from the time the congregation was established in 2003 until his retirement in 2018. Although he has been preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ since 1985, this was the only church her served in his pastoral role as Senior Minister. He grew up in the Church of Christ and was, from a very early age, actively involved in church work. He has served the church in many capacities, with emphasis on church education. His responsibilities ranged from bible school teacher for all ages, to superintendent, to Educational Director. He served in church leadership at three congregations in Illinois. He worked for many years with the Midwest Youth Conference, serving as Secretary and Treasurer. He also worked with the Midwest Lectureship, an eight-state conference, and has served as its Chairman from 1998 until 2017. Minister Johnson has been a presenter at the annual National Teachers Workshop and National Lectureship and has preached and conducted workshops on Church Education and Church Marketing throughout the Midwest and South. Minister Johnson attended the public schools in Decatur, IL. His educational and theological accomplishments include an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management from Richland College; studies toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management at the University of Illinois at Springfield; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education and a Master of Divinity degree in Christian Education from the Theological University of America. In early 2003 Minister Johnson was asked to lead an effort to establish a congregation in the Bloomington-Normal community with a focus on saving souls and improving the quality of life for members of this community. Under his leadership, God has blessed the Central Pointe church to experience tremendous growth, both spiritually and numerically. The church purchased a building to meet in while plans were being completed to build a permanent facility in which to worship and provide other activities. Due to growth a second building was purchased. Long-range plans include a building that includes a Worship and Education center, a youth center, a senior citizens facility, and a life management center in which to serve the community.   As the spiritual leader at Central Pointe, Minister Johnson is a committed family man. He has been married to his wife, Margarette since 1969. They have two adult children: Marcus Johnson of Urbana, IL and Sonia Johnson-Toson of Atlanta, GA.                                                    Larry Johnson’s ministerial and life motto is: “Commitment + Consistency = Success.”

Bro. Jay Shannon

Growing up in a christian home, Jay came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while attending the Crusade for Christ in Chicago, IL. (Sheldon Heights Church of Christ) at the age of 13. He attended Illinois State University were he met his wife Patricia (two children Julius, Noah).  Jay and his family has been members of Central Pointe from its inception. Jay currently serves the church in the finance, Audio/Visual, and  Praise & Worship Ministries. Jay often refers to the influences of strong men in the church that has made an impact on his life.

While attending Western Michigan University, Hollis came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior during a on Campus Crusade for Christ week of bible studies conducted by members of the Church from Springfield, Missouri hosted by the East Main Church of Christ in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

After being added to the Church that week, the next month his future wife and friend since High School, Kim followed in Detroit, Michigan at the Northwest Church of Christ. Hollis and Kim have ( 2 sons Micheal 27, Mark 23 ), both baptized members. Hollis currently services the Church as the Evangelism / Benevolence Ministry Leader and Song Leader

Bro. Marcus Johnson

Marcus grew up in the Church of Christ, His Grandfather Booker Johnson was a Deacon at the Jasper St. Church of Christ in Decatur, Illinois. Marcus was baptized into Christ in Springfield, Illinois (Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ) at the age of 13. Marcus is the son of Central Pointe Senior Minister, Larry Johnson. He is married to Torianna and has 3 children: Mariah 27, Jaden 18 and Amari 15. Marcus placed membership at Central Pointe shortly after its inception.
