When it comes to Christianity and the bible, the questions seem to be
endless. Not only do we inquire often about God’s will for our lives, we often
debate with our friends and neighbors concerning what exactly God’s desire is
for us and how we go about pleasing Him. Some say that the Lord directs their
lives by laying it on their heart, while others proclaim that it is only the written
word that gives us direction. With so many different ideas out there, how is a
person to find the true path in which to take?
The Apostle Peter writes, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the
knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all
things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who
called us by glory and virtue.” (2 Peter 1:2–3) Note that Peter by inspiration
says God has given us “all things” that pertain to our physical lives as well as
the spiritual. By gaining knowledge about Jesus Christ and the redemption
plan of salvation we obtain instruction for living and preparing for eternity. So,
where do I turn to find the answers to all of my questions? Yes, you guessed
it, they are in the bible.
What if I can’t find the answer I’m looking for or God simply chose not
to share those things with me? What then? Even though we are encouraged
by the Scriptures to grow in knowledge (2 Peter 3:18), there may be times we
have to be content with the answers God gives (or doesn’t give). Remember,
God said He would “supply all your need according to His riches in glory by
Christ Jesus” and “having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may
abound in every good work.” (Phil. 4:19; 2 Cor. 9:8) Surely the Lord has
sufficiently given us all the information we need to live a good life and serve
Him well.
