About Central Pointe Church of Christ

Our Worship

At Central Pointe Church of Christ, we worship as Jesus and the apostles instructed the Church in its earliest beginnings:

  • We practice congregational a cappella singing.

  • We talk to the Father through prayer.

  • We preach solid lessons from God's Word.

  • We commune together over the Lord's Supper every first day of every week.

  • We give a portion of our blessings back to the Lord every first day of every week.

  • We participate in regular fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

  • We provide assistance to those in need.

  • We reach out to our community to teach them the Good News of Salvation.
  • Central Pointe - We're Teaching the Word and Touching the World!

    Our History

The Central Pointe Church of Christ was born out of a spirit of concern and passion of Bloomington-Normal, Illinois community. Near the end of 2002 a few people approached Minister Larry Johnson and expressed a desire to have a congregation established in this community that would adequately meet both their spiritual and physical needs. Minister Johnson and his wife (Margarette) began to seriously pray about this request and challenge. For five months they prayed every day, asking God's direction and guidance in accepting this challenge. In early 2003, Minister Johnson met with five people in a business conference room in Normal, Illinois and shared with them the vision God had put on his heart regarding the establishment of a church of Christ in this community.

On July 13, 2003 the congregation held its first service in a storefront location in Bloomington with a membership of eight people. Thus, the Central Pointe Church of Christ came into existence. Being ordained and installed as its initial spiritual leader, Minister Johnson began to work with those "faithful few" to begin the laborious road of spiritual and numerical growth.

In July, 2004 God blessed Central Pointe to purchase a building at 3 Felton Place in Bloomington, to more adequately meet its worship and class needs and accommodate its growth. As the church continued to grow, the need arose for a larger facility. On May 21, 2006 Central Pointe moved to its present location at 406 South Clinton Street, Bloomington, IL.

The Central Pointe Church of Christ's focus is to meet the needs of the "whole" man, both spiritual and physical. Our ministries are highlighted by regular Family Nights; The Timothy Club, a young men's training and mentoring program and focuses on responsibility, education and leadership, equipping them to be successful in life; an active ladies ministry serves to meet the unique needs of women. We focus on the principles of Friendship, Fellowship and Family and Love.

The vision for the Central Pointe Church of Christ is to build a campus environment to include a larger worship and education facility, a youth center, a life management center (to meet the social needs of our community), and a senior citizens' facility. With our work and God's direction, we look forward to our vision becoming a reality.
