The sign over the storefront door read FRED HOFFMAN – DENTIST. A red-faced man seemed startled as he walked in the door. “May I help you?” said the receptionist. “What happened to the bar? There used to be a bar here.” The receptionist explained, “The bar is gone. The store has been remodeled. Now it’s a dentist’s office.” “You need to take down your sign” said the disgruntled man, and then he left. The curious receptionist went outside to see what the man was talking about. Carved in the old brick stonework above their new sign was the problem in large letters. It read, BILL’S BAR.
Some Christians invite sin in because they don’t take down their old sign. They won’t allow a complete remodel of their temple. Instead, they hang on to old habits that invite Satan to visit them, again and again. If we are going to be good soldiers of the Cross, we must be willing to undergo a complete transformation, not just a remodel. The old sign has to go. The new sign should read BORN AGAIN.
“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
